An exceptional wine, both for its deep color and its nose of ripe black fruits, without being excessive.
Günzian gravel. Old-vine Cabernet Sauvignon.
Elegance, finesse of the aromas, power, a wine for ageing.
The richness of Cabernet Sauvignon dominates, with both intensity and subtlety. On the palate, the silky tannins are remarkable, and the oak enhances the aromas on the nose. Nothing is missing, and the length is there.

Crus Bourgeois - Bordeaux’s hidden gems?

Next up was a 2015 Chateau de Malleret (2020 categorisation - Crus Bourgeois Exceptionnel; 56% Merlot, 42% Cabernet Sauvignon, 2% Petit Verdot), £24.50 from Lea and Sandeman. This was a lot deeper in the glass - a properly dark crimson to it. A little bit spicier and more exotic on the nose, it had the same dark fruit notes - but I felt with added concentration. To taste this was certainly a bigger wine. More tannic structure to it, but accompanied by a more luxurious mouth-feel. I felt that the wine had a much deeper and more savoury after-taste - slightly more ”serious“ than the first wine, but that does not mean that the wine was less enjoyable. The finish was similarly long. This was my pick of the three wines.

Le Château de Malleret a débuté la commercialisation de son nouveau rosé nommé "Rose de Malleret".

La propriété classée Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel a conclu un partenariat avec Air France qui a sélectionné les millésimes 2019 et 2020 du Château de Malleret pour être servis en business class en 2025 et 2026.

A dark, sweet, toasted and leathery blend from this property currently ranked as Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel, with layers of black olive and liquorice from this Cabernet-rich blend. A fine composition, the finish laden with ripe structure, the lenght impressively persistent, this is clearly a wine with aging potential.
